A design for an amplifier for bioelectric events is presented that has fewer parts than conventional designs. The design allows the construction of amplifiers of a high quality in terms of noise and common mode rejection, with reduced dimensions and with a lower power consumption. Gain, bandwidth and number of channels are easily adapted to a wide range of biomedical applications. An operational amplifier often op amp or opamp is a DC-coupled high- gain electronic voltage amplifier with a differential input and, usually, a single-ended output. Operational amplifiers had their origins in analog computers , where they were used to perform mathematical operations in linear, non-linear, and frequency-dependent circuits. The popularity of the op amp as a building block in analog circuits is due to its versatility. By using negative feedback , the characteristics of an op-amp circuit, its gain, input and output impedance , bandwidth etc.
This invention relates generally to operational amplifier op amp circuits and, more particularly, to op amp circuits having means for reducing the generation of noise. In the past, op amp circuits have typically included a first amplification stage having a differential pair of matched transistors in a common-emitter configuration. The base elements of the two transistors serve, respectively, as non-inverting and inverting input terminals, and an output signal, proportional to the difference between signals being applied to the two input terminals, is produced at the collector element of one of the transistors.
